Dr. Leonel Rojo, Ph.D.

 

Dr. Leonel Rojo holds a doctoral degree in Pharmacology from the University of Chile and is a registered pharmacist in Chile. Dr. Rojo started his research career validating new medical uses of FDA-approved drugs in aging-related disorders and performing pioneering work towards the discovery of new neuroimaging technologies at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, USA along with professors Peter Davies and Ricardo Maccioni. Dr. Rojo has also been a visiting scientist at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Vancouver, Canada and the National Institute of Engineering and Technology (INETI) in Lisbon, Portugal. His work in Chile, USA and Europe has resulted in over fifteen peer-reviewed scientific publications and several book chapters. Dr. Rojo’s current professional interest is developing safe and effective botanical therapeutics with applications in skin aging and metabolic diseases.

Dr. Rojo has recently been awarded first prize at the Technology Transfer Conference of the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists for his ground-breaking work on the anti-aging and wound healing properties of lucuma seed extract. This technology was developed at the Biotech Center of Rutgers University where he currently is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the laboratory of Professor Ilya Raskin, one of the world’s leading researchers in plant-derived natural products. Dr. Rojo has been also awarded with grants from other prestigious institutions such as the American Society of Pharmacognosy, Chilean Ministry of Education, CYTED, CONICYT and CORFO.
